I've been following the awful news about Japan and was just wondering how we would cope with a leakage from our nuclear plants. I live only about 40 miles from the Sizewell B and I have to admit, it does give me slight jitters to think about any potential accidents. I think I'm getting more neurotic as I get older.............

oi watch it !! I'll tell moonie on you (check the jokes section I need to keep my pants smart y'know)

I'm not old enough to remember it being called Windscale, it's just one of those useless pieces on info that stay stuck ini the brain-cell

AND you never offered any of us a biccy, shame
LOL.........I still really love my old comforts, chuckers.:0)

Taking a realistic attitude is not the same as ignoring a problem. As I mentioned, there are drills in place for all this sort of stuff, so insults are inappropriate. As is worrying about vanishing small risks, yet accepting much larger ones on a regular basis.
Sorry

I was thinking of the Windscale/Sellafield accident in the 50's and got my Sellafields and Sizewells mixed up!

Anyway I do know a lot of the radioactivity settled on the Merseyside area; destroyed the docks, turned some people into musical geniuses and made everybody else unfit for work.
.
I remember doing radioactivity tests at St Bees Head, just down the coast from Windscale/Sellafield,as part of a Geology course in the 80's.
The needle went off the scale on our monitoring equipment :-S
