mmr jab reactions

i have a fifteen month old baby who is in the process of the side effects of the mmr jab he had 8 days ago,, has anyone elses children had any bad side effects, unsure weather to take him to a doctor as the health visitor said to expect a reaction, but hes just not himself and constantly crying,, he wont take calpol so i cant heal his pain, please help!

take him to the doctors.....for your own peice of mind if nothing else.  the calpol is not necessarily for any pain, it helps prevent a temperature, and so if you can't get him to take this, and he is constantly crying, I'd want to speak to someone about it.  I'm sure he'll be fine but it does sound like a much more severe reaction than my wee guy had - he just was a bit out of sorts for a couple of days about 8 days after the injection. My daughter got full blown measles and was almost delirious, extremely high temp, twitchy, and jumpy and crying and couldn't settle at all. Calpol every 4 hours I gave, but I was concerned about a Febrile convulsion happening, but it didn't, I did report it to the health visitor and doctor the next day, but didn't rush to A&E (cos you feel a bit daft) however I agree with Kick3m0n if it feels like you need to know either way, go. No one will critise you for it. Or ring NHS direct, they are good. I have three kids and I've been sat waiting to go into the doctors appointment with my "very ill must have appointment today" kid, when they suddenly become the life and soul of the waiting room. It's probably one of the only times in your life, when you wish they were a little bit ill, just to back your phone call up.

from my experience I would always go with your instincts, I'd rather feel a bit silly and dramatical in the surgery than my children be really ill I did just that this morning when my baby was slightly wheezie I thought I'd just check him out turned out he needed a nebuliser and steroids so glad I followed my instincts if I was you i'd do the same let me know how he gets on.
