Strengths ?
The OED gives the ten-letter word scraunched from the english translation of Don Quixote!

I just thought of strengths johnalex, never heard of scraunched, lelliej.  thanks
I go with the old joke - smiles - there is a mile from one end to the other!!!

You can have STRAIGHT as a noun, on a racetrack etc, so presumably you can have the plural, STRAIGHTS, which is nine letters.

Squirrelled. It doesn't work in standard British English, I know, but most North Americans pronounce the word as a monosyllable..."squirld", in effect...as in "He had squirrelled away money in lots of accounts."
'Strengths' is all the more unusual, having 8 consonants but only 1 vowel. Beat that!
screeched (and its variants) ,scratched, stretched, scrunched all have 9 letters.
I've yet to equal the 10-letter 'scraunched'......but it's not in Chambers
