Dusty -hi !! yes I've seen him/her a couple of times, both roosting in the barn and also in the nest box - do you think he's one of the last hatching, coming in out of the cold ??
no way of telling, of course, but after the rather bleak scenes at the loch, it's lovely to actually see a bird up close, even if it's completely dead to the world !!
I also have a male owl nearby, calling for a mate.
Apparently, from tele programmes I've watched, the female goes Too-wit, and the male does the Too-Woo.
Does this clear anything up for you?
Users share their bird spotting stories, pictures, reports and so on. If you want to pop a picture on there, load it up to Flickr or Tinypic and paste the link in, I come round every now and again to insert them into the page. We get some very pretty things in there.
Thanks Steff - I got so excited I had to take a tablet!! But good to know there has been some action! Something to look forward to. There was a bit of beak to beak smooching when I first looked. Thanks to Sir Alec and hellywelly4 for joining in. Not the smooching of course!! Thanks to AB Ed for supplying the link. I shall enjoy that.
oh dear, that's not good, you'll be popping them madly once the real action starts !!
but it was lovely to see them back, I have no idea what their ritual is, only having found them last year .... after the bit of hanky-panky, the female was roosting out in the barn, dad had a bit of a doze then started muttering away to himself ..... talk about bad language !!!
I hesitate to butt in, but has this conversation strayed from "Animals and Nature"? (I agree that it's a most interesting subject, and I too go out with my bins once a week for an hour or so - no time for more - and really enjoy myself! I heard a tawny owl calling a couple of nights ago, which was a surprise to me as I'm firmly in suburbia!) I'm just wondering if it all stemmed from a quiz question of some sort?
Sorry JandyAF ~ all my fault! I knew I could probably get in touch with Steff on Q&P in the middle of the night (her being in Upside Down Land!) - and it worked! Amazing to think, I am in Right Way Up Land and yet we watch the same owls on the same web cam! I shall probably now be excommunicated from AB :o( Oh well!
Anyway, sorry it wasn't to do with a quiz but please don't ever hesitate to butt in if I'm around! Lol
Yes, Steff ~ I was a bit shocked to see you at 7.30 pm our time. I'm far too polite to ask!! Dx
back in the nest box at 7.00am this morning [your time] with some more canoodling now it's all quiet there ...
but up at the loch ..... there's very definitely something going on ..... there was an osprey feeding, perched on the edge of the nest ... no idea whether it was the old girl but fingers crossed, legs, eyes, you name it crossed !!! only time will tell ... then I guess we'll have to move ourselves over to animals/nature, oh well that won't be hard !! seeya
