My OH recently bought a new monitor for the desktop computer, it's one of those TFT HD widescreen ones, since connecting it, it keeps shutting down, and a message saying 'no signal' appears just before. A friend has told him that maybe the video card in the stack isn't powerful enough to cope with the new monitor!.........any ideas please?...
If it appears to work ok most of the time, it could be that the refresh rate is set too high.
Assuming XP:
Right-click the desktop
Choose properties
Select the Settings tab
Click the Advanced button
Select the Monitor tab
Set the refresh rate to around 60-75 Hz.
If Rojash's advice doesn't help then you will need to check whether your card can support the monitor. If it can't you may be able to get updated drivers; if not you will need a new card like I did.
Hiya ..
Most new monitors that are widescreen are supplied with drivers .. in case the monitor is not recognised/supported.
Is it detected/displayed as a 'Plug and Play Monitor' in display settings or control panel properties?
I would check/substitute the Dvi cable first .. It is dvi I assume?
I just rigged up a new ws monitor for a mate ..regular name (not budget) that had driver in a disc included.
Obviously some do, some don't.
You could always check manu. support site for info.
Thanks to you all for your help!.........will let my OH know!...........he's away at present, but he can try your suggestions on his return next week.........Thanks again!.........
