ds/ds lite repair

The hinge has broken on my son's ds lite. I have Googles it and there are a lot of forms that offer repairs. But some are saying I have to have the whole top lid replaced and then they talk about replacing it with one that is 'nearly the same'. He has a cobalt blue ds, a limited edition colour from America so I don't want one 'nearly the same'. However if I use Nintendo's repair service as they sai they can just replace the hinges, are they likely to do any software updates at the same time?? I want it to come back without being fiddles with, just repaired. Has anyone got any experience of this or can recommend somewhere to repair just the hinges? Thanks.

you will find many videos on youtube telling you how to fix it yourself, its hard to explain but isn't to difficult to do if you can be gentle fingered. also there are videos on there showing you how to glue it back together with a certain compound mixture. you're probably better off having a go at it yourself (save on costs) plus if you do need the actual outer casing, you will find the casing on ebay and the case is just unscrew, take inners out and put new case on.

as you say hinge!!! could be plastic case on the hinge or a hinge pin, all of the above will cater for both and youtube caters for both.

i have fixed many things off watching youtube videos.

my brother had a black ds lite with the hinge broken, it cost about 30.00, they had it back to him within 5 days, they didn't do software updates or anything, they just repaired it, they also kept him well informed

Well we went on ebay, biught our own casing. Turns out the hinge bit thats broken is actaully part of the top shell. Then we used youtube and did it ourselves. Thanks for the advice.

Well theres no point repairing it as it would cost the same to buy a new one.
