What sort of negatives have you come up with? The NMC Code of Conduct details the expectations of performance and conduct of a registered nurse - many professional bodies have such Codes, and people can be struck off the register if they don't adhere. A nursing PIN is hard gained and most nurses are proud of their Code - everyone understands what is expected of them. I'll be interested to know what you are considering as the downside of the code - I can't think of any, I wouldn't want to be treated by a nurse who isn't suitably qualified and protected by the NMC.

i completely agree with you. The only slight downside i can see is the case of Margaret Haywood who was struck off the register only to be reinstated again. Each individual has a personal opinion on this case, but was the NMC right to strike her off? i guess thats not actually a negative, more a conflict of opinion as to what was the right thing to do. I'm trying to explore all avenues thats all. Thanks for your comment.
I like my NMC...but for the purpose of debate or whatever, could u go down he euthanasia or assisted suicide route!? Long shot sorry! Ill keep thinking!?

The bit about not accepting gifts...could you say patients do like to give people a wee gift? X
Hmmmm. Interesting. I guess you could liken it to Return to Practice? If your PIN has been deactivated because you didn't renew it (not working for a while, e.g.) you have to redo the RtP course to make sure you are up to speed not only clinically but also in the latest standards etc. You then get your PIN back and are readmitted to the profession. Did this happen in M Haywood's case? I'm sure that I've heard of a nuse who was directed to an RtP course if she wanted to keep her PIN, after some sort of disciplinary event (but I couldn't be sure, so don't quote me!).
Also upholding your reputation at all times....

Could say what u do Off duty is your business..

Im just playing devils advocate remember before anyone shoots me down lol xx
Ah, but no, tinks - if you are arrested for drunk and disorderly, it can be said to be bringing the profession into disrepute - and that sort of thing shows up on an enhanced CRB check too!
Yeah box i agree, im do! But just trying to think what people may think and playing advocate lol!

I dont think id want looked after by some eejit who was arrested all then time hahahaha ...xx
I was nursed after surgery one night by a nurse who stank of cigarette smoke - being delicate and nauseous at that point, it was not very nice.
Yeah box, my mentor on a placement stank of fags and BO! Had non unofirm dirty shoes on, uniform didnt look clean, infact everything abt her wasnt clean, personal hygeine the LOT. Sorry i know u shouldnt judge a book by its cover but she was assesing me and i wasnt happy with the results. I did mention to the uni as she had been taken off mentoring before- i think that i would want a nurse to be clean about her or himself!!! I bite my nails and im even aware that my hands should look nicer than that haha xx
Interesting tinks, glad you mentioned it - the Universities should have very stringent standards for placements, they are audited regularly. Sounds like a bad example to the student, let alone to the patient...
Yes i had a few problems with that particular place and at the end i done my online evaluation.......really not a good nurse. At all.

Worst aseptic tech iv seen fact lol x
don't tell me, I don't wanna know!!! ;-)

i'm not long into my course. My first placement begins in 2 weeks on a stroke rehabilitation ward. I'm both nervous and looking forward to it. I know i could be a good nurse. I love caring for people, but i'm afraid my academic abilities will let me down. Its been 15 yrs since i last wrote an essay! oh well............. fingers crossed xxxxxxx
