oystercard

Does anyone know how this works?  I want to buy an annual travelcard pass for zones 1-4.  Formerly you would be issued a paper pass to accompany your photocard.  I now would like to get this but actually on my oystercard.  A friend has told me this would not be possible, because the mainline rail stations mostly do not recognise oyster!  Is this true? 

Basically I would want to use tube, train, bus, dlr etc. - after all that is what a travelcard is, and what I would be paying for. 

Any help on this would be greatly appreciated, as I have trawled the oystercard/tfl websites, and it really does not seem to be clear how it would all work.

i don't thin it's true. I always use my oystercard on mainline rail. But be careful you don;t go out of zone.

If you're using an Oyster card, the only National Rail services it's valid on are:
� Amersham to Marylebone
� Finsbury Park to King�s Cross/Moorgate
� Harrow & Wealdstone to Euston (but not at
Kilburn High Road/South Hampstead)
� Kentish Town to Moorgate/Elephant &
Castle/London Bridge
� Liverpool Street to Walthamstow Central/
Tottenham Hale/Seven Sisters (but not at
intermediate stations)
� Richmond to Gunnersbury
� Stratford to Canning Town
� Stratford to Liverpool Street
� Upminster to Fenchurch Street/Liverpool
Street via Barking (but not at Forest
Gate/Maryland)
� West Ruislip/South Ruislip to Marylebone
(but not at intermediate stations)

thanks both ever so much for the replies.  But I am still a little confused!  The pdf does not state clearly the terms.  If oyster can only be used on some mainline stations, then an annual travel card on oyster is NOT a travel card, is it?!  So should I just stick to the paper one for now??

If you buy a Travel Card on your Oyster then it works just as the old style paper travel cards and is valid on all trains, tubes and buses within your zones.

It's just that you cannot buy it at a train station.

It's some train lines that do not take the 'pay as you go' option on an Oyster card. But you will have no problem with a zoned travel card.
