no more after this promise ! who remembers Valentine Dyall and the Man in Black ? he used to dare you to listen to the programme in the dark ? my mum was too scared to do that ! we also used to listen together to the Sat Night play and my dad used to check his football pools [ never won !] whilst we listened.

Mr W. took offence, sued the band, and won, and the judge signed all present and future royalty payments from the record to Mr Wilson, who in turn signed them over to Birmingham Children's Hospital, which benefits to this day every time the record is played on the radio.

No, they didn't relinquish them - the rights to royalities were taken from them by the judge for the case, who ruled that the postcard was nasty and malicious, and obviously the band had to be punished appropriately (!)
Given the millions of singles sold, and the royalties for fifty years of radio-pay, that was some punishment!
