Do this sum in your head and don't use a calculator or pen and paper. Just give it a go.

Take 1000 and add 40 to it. Now add another 1000. Now add 30. Add another 1000. Now add 20. Now add another 1000. Now add 10. What is the total?

mamy, I wouldn't call it cheating, I know you wouldn't do that. However I think that doing it in the order it is written will throw some people off. This works well if you say it out to people rather than reading it, as then they have to do it in order.
