ok jd so you want an elected head of state but not a Blair or Cameron so who do you suggest?
The USA has an elected head of state - and look at some of the people they got (Nixon, Carter, Reagan, Bush junior etc)

And often these elected heads of state are bankrolled by billionaires who have their own agenda.

Once the president is in power (be it Reagan, Bush or whoever) they start having to make good to the people who bankrolled them, passing business their way (like in Iraq for example).

While I think our royal family need bringing down a peg or two, and a few taken off the payroll, I dont believe an elected head of state is always the right answer.
lol, in-bred - n1 DT
Most European royalty can claim a British ancestor too, so it's tit for tat.

Speaking of WW1 and the change to Windsor. I believe that is the time German Shepherds became Alsations. They have now reverted to German Shepherd.

Not for me to suggest Alex, it's up to the people to decide. After 5 years, if they don't like who they chose, then they can pick somebody else. My preference would be for a similar presidential style to that of the Irish Republic.
True 999,

The windsor surname should be Saxe-Coburg-Gotha
That's a bit debatable actually - yes Prince Albert was of the House of Saxe Coburg Gotha but the actual family surname was "Wettin"! So it's possible our dear Sovreign Lady should really be Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth Wettin!
If she had taken her husbands name it would have been Battenburg (Mountbatten) and Charles would be the first monarch of the house of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Glücksburg.
