LOL Brenda, my daughter has just arrived home from Uni to do her placement.............
I think could actually camp in her suitcase, no joking, I've never seen one so big!
Question Author
bibble -- one step up from slate and chalk then. Are you a bit posh ?
Question Author
Chaffinch -- made me smile that -- I was lugging all this stuff into his room , where was he , gone to find his friends in the student bar !!!!!!
This made me laugh as I had to take and fetch my daughter and her stuff at the start and end of every uni term . In my day I was plonked on a train with my bags, had to then get 2 tubes across London and then another train right from the word go!
Question Author
Prudie -- those were the days eh? But I bet you we had loads more fun than they do today.
I had to rewrite some Uni work the other day - it was fabulous revisiting it, I could find all my references on-line, no more trogging about in the library with a huge book-list!
You were posh, brenda. I had an Imperial 66 which required the use of a 7lb lump hammer to move the keys far enough to cause their imprint on the paper. 'Twas like a fairground stall.
Question Author
LOL, remember those as well ttfn
Ttfn, did you ever hit the return handle so hard that the carriage shot off the machine and flew across the room? I know I did!
Lethal weapon - let alone the little disc rubber tied to the carriage on a piece of knicker elastic - gosh that hurt if it caught you in the face.
Question Author
You guys with the typewriters have made me laugh -- had forgotten just how infuriating those machines were
.Off to have a G and T, to calm down.
own typewriter = luxury ! We had to borrow & beg
Did you have one of those plastic shields with little shaped holes, that you could rub out through, without deleting the rest of the work? and I had a blue curly thing that looked like false teeth, that you put between each copy on the roller when you were rubbing out, to save the carbon paper smearing?
Question Author
Boxi -- remember those as well --pathetic things really weren't they.?Do you know I think if we hadn't have spent so much time faffing about trying to do stuff , we would all have had the best qualifications and jobs ever.
