fitting rising hinges?

How do I fit rising hinges, is it a straight replacement and then remove bits of the door that catch on the top of the frame?

That's right John. Whether you have to do any easing depends on how the architrave is set on the "in" side.

Thanks Builder. I was going to fit the hinges with the door wide open and ease off anything that fouls as it closes. Should I take some off the door or the frame?

I once fitted rising hinges. I just screwed them into the places on the door and the frame where the original (non-rising) hinges had been. I had to chamfer a little bit off the top corner of the door, that's the top corner nearest the hinge (not the handle) edge. To figure out how much to chamfer off, I closed the door, noted where the top corner caught on the frame, and used a Stanley block plane on it.

That's right. You tend not to see where the top of the door has been eased. A piece taken out of the door lining would look a bit rough :o(

Success!! Only needed to take a bit off the door and the hinges went on fairly easily, it was the fiddlig with djusting the depth of the hinges to get the door square in the frame that took ages.
