How many jobs have you had ?
33 Answers
I was thinking about how many jobs Ive had since I left school in 1967. I think Ive had 10 full time jobs and about 3 part time jobs. At one time I had 5 part time jobs (cleaning) on the go at once to make up a reasonable working week. Ive only been unemployed for 3 months in the whole of my working career. Ive was on maternity leave for about 6 months. I think Ive been very lucky. How about you ?

more of the same then after I came out of prison for the last time
car valeter (only thing I could think of being totally free to set up as I had no money)
car dealer (from the proceeds of the valettng)
general buyer and seller ( ditto etc)
antiques selling at fairs and auctions
my own car lot
my own antiques shop
my own online businesses
buy to let property ventures
my own building and maintenence firm
property dealing ( buying, selling and lettng)
At the moment I have a portfolio of properties and some car lots as well as antiques and second hand shops, fast food outlets and some online and other businesses so all are ongoing but mutable from day to day depending on what's likely to be making the most money.

I've just totted up and realised I've had 21 jobs in total.
However, most of them were part time when I was at school/Uni when I always had at least 3 jobs on the go at once, or the occasional sideline as well as my main job.
Some of my more interesting sidelines are:
Embalming (one branch of the family are funeral directors & I was trained up at a young age)
Scuba diving instructor
Sh*t shoveller - cleaning the shark tank (from the inside) at a marine centre
I could tell you my main job......but then I would have to kill you

i left school in 1977 but found it difficult to keep a job for long because i said what i thought lol nothing bad like swearing at the bosses just things like "hey that machine should have a safety guard on" ....out the door i went with my p 45 lol so lets see how many jobs have i had about 15 so i suppose thats not too many. how many jobs have i actually enjoyed doing is another kettle of fish lol . but now after being out of a job for nearly 4 years due to a mental illness i'm trying to find a job. how things have changed. when i was younger you could walk into a workplace ask if there was any jobs going if there was you would be offered a weeks trial no mountains of form filling on job applications. and nowdays i've found some jobs the only way to apply is via email thats ok if your pc has the programme to download the job application form they send via email. after being self employed for several years for divorce reasons i had to find a job. so i applyed for a job at a factory that i us to work for about 20 years previous.oh how things had changed i had to do i think they call it a appitude test. sat in a room with other hopefuls doing a type of exam with questions like if mary had ten bars of chocola and gave sue 3 how many would she have left.then english grammar questions. i wasn't applying for nasa lol just a job packing coleslaw lol in fact i felt insulted at having to do this test.
This thread was good reading.
I started work in 1980 with the civil service in the department that was then called the DHSS. No idea what it is called now. I was medically retired in 2004 due to bipolar disorder. Looking back I must have been a nightmare to work with - I wasn't just away on another planet but in a totally different solar system.
Now do voluntary work in an Oxfam bookshop - have been there for about 5 years and it is good. I think that the fact that I work only one or two afternoons a week makes it much more bearable.
