does sherbet melt?

I want to send sherbet to the troops but it's say store in a cool dark place??? The afghan heat is of course notorious. So it sherbet made of sugar and will the sugar melt together as a big mass?

No, it won't melt - but like a lot of edible stuff it keeps better in cool, dry conditions. Warm, damp conditions will make it "cake together" and it will lose it's fizz.

Thanks mercia I am well versed on all things like this I send 500+ boxes a year and talk via email with all the men, but I try to use new products all the time to keep the boxes interesting and instead of bothering them with lots of questions about suitability I try to find the answers out myself, like with the sherbet question.

When you say sherbet wt do you mean the fine white powdery stuff with a liqourice pipe to suck it op or do you mean the stuff like lemonade powder sort of sugar crystals. (some call that sherbet too)

Hi what..the, no idea about the sherbert but intrigued about sending boxes to troops. My lad's mate did a tour in Afghanistan, his family and mates regularly sent him a box. Didn't realise you could send boxes to any soldier, would like to find out more about this.
Had a look at mercias link but that seems to be for American forces, is there a similar one for UK? Ta

have a look on the 'regional team' tab to see if there is a co-ordinator like me, that lives near you, then you make up the box with all the goodies and a nice message give it to that co-ordinator who then sends it out to the front line to someone who needs it.

Thanks for that, will have a look. Know how much it meant to my lad's mate to get stuff from home. I wrote him a few letters, which to me didn't seem much, but he was made up with them. Just thought it would be so nice to do that for someone else.

Yeah it really means a lot to them, I get lots of thank you letters that make me cry :(

Had a look at your link, there is a co-ordinator about 12 miles from me, probably too late for the Easter campaign, but will e-mail her and get filling shoe boxes:-)

Great news, yes we send boxes all year round so it is always a good thing to just keep it in the back of your mind when you are out shopping and then when you see a really good offer like bogof or even buy 1 get 3 free then pick them up. I tend to avoid with experience toileries, because they are often too heavy/leak/and too expensive to buy on mass. I like to send all different types of food along with a puzzle mag. Dont forget your letter/hello note and keep the box under 2 kg ideally under 1.8kg just to make sure.

If you want them to write back (if they have time) include your address in the note/letter

try and pack the boxes so things wont move about and if in doubt place items in bags. I bought a bulk load of pot noodles, actually golden wonder pot noddles which have a plastic sheet top not foil, but have been told by the boys they explode 9 out of 10 types (must get crushed) as I have a load have already bought I am just bagging in tesco bags before they go in the box. then if they do explode they can rescue the bits to make a noddle instead of them being everywhere.
