40A. Riddles cracked in games. ?I?D?E?. I think that it is an anagram of "Riddles" but can't work it out. I have received two answers as "enigmas" (anagrams "in games" but it doesn't for with the other letters.
Can anyone sort this out please!

IMO it was wrongly clued, and the intended answer is 'riddles

Thanks - I was thinking it can't possibly be "riddles" but it is the only word that fits. Many thanks for confirming this - I thought that I had been doing too many crosswords! I even typed a "garbled" message but I am pleased that you fathomed out what I was getting at.
Now I can take the dog for a walk.
