Spontaneous Bruising

As I was getting out of the bath ast night I felt a sharp, popping feeling in the second toe of my left foot, when I examined it I saw that it had an enormous blue bruise on it. I hadn't banged, stubbed or twisted it in any way. Today the bruise has turned a reddy black colour and covers the whole of the top of my toe.

Has anyone got any idea what causes bruises to appear when absolutely no physical injury happened?

In the absence of bruising anywhere else in your body then without noticing it, you must have knocked it whilst getting out of the bath.

Spontaneous bruising from one isolated spot has been recorded, but in itself it is of no sinister significance.

Daffy, this happens to a lot of people I know underfinger joints, including myself So I presume it can happen in toes as well. Usually the bruises go very quickly. Nothing to do with knocking the area. There is always the sharp popping feeling as well

Sqad, I DEFINITELY didn't knock it. I was sitting on a chair when it happened, there was nothing I could have knocked it on.

Lottie, thanks for reassuring me that i'm not the only one to have this happen, it was/is a really weird experience. lol

Hmmm, I hope this isn't going to be a regular thing from now on, it is blooming painful! lol

I have had it often Daffy, so did my Dad, Mr LL and my son and quite a few people I know I think somebody told me it was a burst blood vessel. I wouldn't worry!! :o)
Sometimes it happens when I am gardening and my hands are hot. Perhaps the water in your bath was hot!!

I am not an idiot Sqad. I don't like the sound of idiopathic spontaneous bleeding so I am not going to google it. It only happens under the joints in my fingers and I ain't dead yet!!

you must loosen up those thigh cuffs sandy, it isn't fair on the poor lass and not good for her circulation.

She was a chicken plucker. A particularly stubborn set of feathers and she'd accidentally hit herself on the leg. Black and blue they'd be sometimes.

I just checked back my pevious posts and it was on the 20th March this year, I hit my toe as I stepped over into the bath and it went black, red, and blue, and I thought I had broken it, but within a week it was back to normal.
