I`ve just had a letter drop through the letterbox that said "Please open quickly - important documents enclosed". I was a bit worried and thought I`d copped a speeding ticket or something. When I opened it, it was a campaign letter about the upcoming election. Is this an official letter or junk mail? Has anyone else had one? It names a website called yestofiarervotes.org If it`s junk they`re going to get a sharp email from me about the worrying tone of their envelope and the fact that I`m on the mail preference list.

this'll be for the AV voting referendum. A few threads down someone had posted how poorly publicised AV voting has been.

I know it`s for the AV but I was wondering if it was an official government letter or a private campaign outfit. They`ve just received a rollocking from me.
theres several independent bodies set up who are all in favour of AV and I guess their job is to increase awareness of the AV system as they're all for it. Its not official as such.
It is likely to be a semi-governmental pressure group, from their site:

YES! To Fairer Votes is the trading name of Yes In May 2011 Ltd., which is a company limited by guarantee (number: 07328856). Its board consists of:

Chair: Katie Ghose (Chief Executive, Electoral Reform Society)
Pam Giddy (Chair, Take Back Parliament)
Neal Lawson (Chair, Compass)
Vicky Seddon (Chair, Unlock Democracy)
John Sharkey (Liberal Democrats)
MIL got one on Saturday from the NO campaign.
It is as official as it needs to be: send them an email anyway, they shouldn't be trying to scare people into opening the letter!

Thanks Booldawg. I thought they were private. I`m really cross with them for the insensitive wording on their envelope. If I had recently had a mammogram or something and an envelope with Please open quickly etc dropped through the letterbox I`d be momentarily sh1tting myself!

AB Ed - I have emailed them and told them how thoughtless they are. If they don`t bliddy reply I`m going to write to them. And I`m going to vote NO just to be awkward :-)
Thanks for that info, AB Ed. Now I'm in no doubt which way to vote!
I a similar worded envelope the other day and it turned out to be something like replacement UPCV windows. Shock tactics seems to be the only way they can get anyone to open junkmail.
I got letter from The Returning Officer this morning - enclosing a little book on how to vote for our next mayor - lol
