MEN HELP!!! Birthday idea for my partner...

My partner is turning 39 this year, now i am seriously struggling with a present. i have his 40th sorted for next year but nothing for now.
The main problem is i didn't buy him much for christmas or his last birthday because i was very poorly so not working and had no money. And now i just really don't know what to buy.

He's a pretty average guy, into footie and darts and things and drinking but i'm pretty sure all those bases are covered...

How about 39 presents? Some retro, some modern (mostly inexpensive) one or two special gifts and maybe a night away? ;)

Why not offer him a pamper evening in which he gets (from you) a massage and a meal out. Write out the offer inside a birthday card, so it will cost you but hopefully be an evening you will both enjoy.
