was your wedding a waste of money?

in retrospect a waste of money

with the dosh, I could have dated some of the lovely ABer women around here and perhaps even gone on a nice holiday with them (comfortable inns/good food/plenty of good wine/art/nice scenery etc and plenty of rampant behaviour).
surely it's not the wedding, it's the married life thereafter?

I think we spent about £3000 all in
My wife and I eloped. Flipped a coin in the car one day, I lost. We found a court house, got a license, drove around over lunch while the justice of the peace was out and found a little church. We were wearing shorts and tank tops. One of the best days of my life and cost me ten bucks.
Our wedding cost us whatever the cost of a marriage licence was back in the 70's and the cost of some food and booze for family and friends afterwards at the home of my parents. Simples.
And Mum and Dad gave us the money they would have spent on a traditional wedding if we had wanted one. It was £400.00 (enough for a deposit on a house in those days!!)
