When is it traditional to eat them? And no, I don't mean "just after 2pm with a cup of tea" I mean on the Friday or the Sunday?

Hope everyone is having a good Good Friday.

It is traditional to eat warm 'hot cross buns' on Good Friday. The pastry cross on top of the buns symbolises and reminds Christians of the cross that Jesus was killed on.
Today I believe, the symbol of the cross was the crucifixion and he rose again on Easter Sunday, I think..;-)
Traditionally, I used to make a Simnel cake, decorated with just 11 marzipan balls, for Easter Sunday tea.
In my house we eat them all year round!

I love them toasted, hot with butter!
Good Friday. When I was a kid we always used to call it 'hot cross bun day'. Someone told me as well that you're supposed to keep one back until next Easter.
at our local passion play, we watched as Jesus was crucified........

a few minutes later, He was seen at the local cafe eating his hot cross bun.

So I guess that must be when...
We have them for breakfast most mornings throughout the year.
Just about to have mine, with a nice cup of tea.
lightly toasted, proper butter, apricot jam !
Shall I start my reminiscences of Good Friday and the baker's boys coming round early in the morning calling out "Hot Cross Buns" with big baskets full of them? They tasted different then too - much nicer. But perhaps not - you might get bored.
Mushroom, tell us more about watching someone being crucified and dying....almost mediaeval.....

ah, that's good because I've just had three. Don't worry, if it hadn't been today I'm prepared, got some more for later.
