Plastic recycling

Loads of stuff I buy has the recyclable motif on it, not just plastic bottles. Why are there always big signs on recycling bins saying 'plastic bottles and cartons only'? If I put plastic lids off gravy cartons, small toys, toothbrushes, plastic bags etc in (assuming they all have the recyclable motif on them) do they get recycled or does someone sort them out?

...or if you mean the three arrows forming a rounded triangle then any product marked with this symbol can be recycled if the regulations of the local community provide for its collection. Although the symbols are used on products distributed nationwide, the rules governing collection of these products for the purpose of recycling are determined locally and vary widely from locality to locality.
