Just come back from holiday in thirsk (through Hoseasons) Log cabin was beautiful but holiday spoilt by loose dog that we didn't dare go past because it kept going for my cavalier king charles...to the point whereby i had literally had my dog yanked up by his lead whilst the other loose dog was trying to drag him back down by his tail. Isn't there a law regarding loose dogs? (the dog belongs to a man who apparently lives there 365 days a year in a caravan) when i complained to hoseasons they said there was nothing they could do about the dog....but they did offer to move us somewhere else. Couldn't move because i didnt dare tell my hubby about the incident with the dog otherwise he would gone mad with the careless and unsympathetic dog owner! The cafe also had 2 loose dogs that were quite tame but were allowed in cafe where food is served! Spent most of the holiday treading eggshells!

well if it was me and another dog had mine by the tail, I would have unleashed OH on him...actually I wouldn't have needed to, my own wrath would have been quite sufficient. There is the dangerous dogs act of course....are you saying you were hanging your dog up by his lead? poor little dog.

I am ashamed to say yes ! it was either that or lettying it sink its teeth in! i'm still upset over it. If i had told my hubby it would have ended in fisticuffs for sure!
Sometimes, but only in exceptions circumstances, like this one, fisticuffs is the only answer. Idiot owner clearly deserves to be tied to a tree and beaten continuously for the entirety of your holiday.

And in all seriousness you should write to Hoseasons stating that this resident ruined your holiday and you want a full refund of your money. See what they say but if they dont cough up take them to the small claims court and let a judge decide. Proving what happened might be tricky if OH is in the dark but its worth an initial letter.

whoops!!! other half? he knows now! told him on the way back this morning!
Seems strange that they were allowed. All the dog friendly sites i have been too (camping) have a strict rule that dogs have to be kept on a lead whilst within the site.
What if there were small children about? It's sad that it spoilt your holiday but luckily no harm came to your little Cav. Needless to say you won't be going there again and next time you'll be sure to thoroughly check their dog policy.
I agree with Richard, a stiff letter to Hoseasons Head Office - also pointing out that the local site staff weren't prepared to do anything about it. Don't delay - do it while it's all still fresh in your mind.
did you not think about picking your dog up and carrying it?
Sorry, but I don't think you've got much of a case against Hoseasons as they made an alternative offer which you declined. But go ahead anyway, you may get an ex gratia payment "without prejudice".
They offered to move you, but you turned them down as you were scared what your husband would do

Hoseasons did their best, they arent to blame here imo. Yes the other dog owner is to blame, but you have to think why you were frightened to tell your husband in the first place...if he would have "resolved" the problem with fists, then hes no better

As another poster says it may be worth checking the t&c on the thirsk site about dogs

the hubbys a gentle giant never seen him argue or fight with anyone, but he loves the dog so much so not sure how things may have escalated...so i wasn't prepared to take a chance on ruining the holiday further. I'm not after compensation, but i do think its wrong of hoseasons to advertise dog friendly holidays when clearly it wasn,t. I just thought dogs weren't allowed to roam. The holiday cost over £500 for 4 nights so can't say the money was well spent
