I am returning to U.K. from Japan tomorrow. I have been given 4 bottles of Sake (as gifts from various friends) 3 x 720ml and 1x 300ml . How much of this will I be allowed to bring into the country?

Just remember to go through the red channel and ask whether they wish you pay any duty. With such small amounts, the answer is likely to be 'No'. Even if it's 'Yes', the amount won't be prohibitive.
