Went to the local Sainsbury's this evening. As I only wanted a couple of things I didn't bother with a basket. Got a pint of milk, packet of cheese and some rolls that they sell at 4 for £1 which you have to put in a little plastic bag. Went to the checkout, put down my milk and cheese, asked for a bottle of magic water and a packet of the evil weed and paid for my goods, not realising that I had the bag of rolls still clutched firmly in my hand. I didn't realise this until I got out of the shop, nor did the lad behind the counter. Unfortunately the bus was coming and had I missed it I would have to wait another hour, so just came home. My dilemma is, should I go back tomorrow and 'fess up, giving them the quid, or merely return the rolls as they are going hard anyway. At my age I can't spend the next 20 years breaking rocks.

You can do your penance on Sunday and put whatever your conscience tells you to
in the collection.
If you feel bad about it then donate the £1 to a charity
I done the same many years ago when Christmas shopping for my Daughter, We were in a shop looking at teddy bears, she passed my a huge teddy to hold while she examined another one underneath it, well, somehow I managed to walk 500 mtrs up the road when my wife looked at me horrified and exclaimed why are you still holding that bear?!! I was afraid to take it back in case I saw the security guard looking for me, we just ran back to the car and went home, I spent weeks worrying every time their was a knock at the door.
done the same thing myself...bought a portion of chippy food and went into a shop, and walked around it and placed a book under the food so i had a hand free...went and paid for the other stuff and forgot about the book until i got home...didnt go back though...

Don't worry about it Mike, it was accidental.
We are all thieves anyway. When was the last time anybody on here bought a standard office pen in a shop? You brought one home from work, didn't you? And that's deliberate.
Sleep well Mike.
I`ve got shares in Sainsbury`s now my returns will be down. Am deeply shocked. Just drop 50p in a charity box and let the world whistle for the rest.

I have done this quite a few times lol. Once it was a bottle of wine that had slipped down the side of the beer boxes in the trolley. I only ever lift one to be scanned and just tell the cashier how many I have to save my back. I did actually realise before I left the store and thought stuff it, if anyone appraoches me I will just lie! Other times I have forgotten to tell the cashier I have the other boxes in the trolley (in fact one time I did and she was so busy chatting to someone else she never heard me) so I have got away with free beer too. I realise I am making myself sound like a real thief now but I swear it was all done accidently at the time!
