Starting a website.

I'm starting up a small business and want to start a website for the business. Just something small and simple with a few pages explaining how the business works. I've looked on google and there are quite a few pages offering simple free DIY websites.

Can anyone give me any advice on this or point me in the right direction? Does anyone know any useful websites for starting your own site and how much will it cost?
