In my 86 years on this planet I am astonished at the incredible forward march in electronics that the youngsters take for granted. I learned to handle the computer only 3 years ago & one of the most amazing things to me is on line banking whereby my pensions are paid into an account & most payments are transfered out electronically, can abers see a time to come when money in the hand becomes a thing of the past ?Ron.

I certainly can. Pay for goods over £12 with debit/credit cards, under £12 with a non-contact method via mobile phone or debit card.
It's a great shame young people have lost their sense of wonder. I am still amazed that I can access the internet whilst travelling on a coach; watch dvds on my very small mp4 player; make free video calls via Skype; read the newspaper online; play cards on my phone; take photos and print them or view them on my tv within seconds; carry hundreds of books on my eReader.

There was an experiment a few years ago, in Swindon IIRC, where everything was paid for electronically including in newsagents, pubs, corner shops etc.
I think that there will inevitably come a time when physical money disappears - cheques are set to be phased out very soon.
I'm exactly 40 years younger than you and, all being well, am maybe half-way through my life. I often wonder what awaits me - teleport, first contact, the eradication of AIDS...
Of course, some would have us believe that none of us will get past 21 December 2012... :-)
