Can someone explain why Catherine is not actually a Princess in her own right and will be known as Princess William - but Diana was a princess. Is it because Diana mrried the heir apparent and Cate hasn't?
Thanks fo your help

She won't, now.

She'll be known as Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge.

Which is a shame. I bet she wanted to be Princess Catherine (if The Queen had bestowed that upon her).
i think she will become Princess of Wales when Charles becomes King.
To me however there will only ever be one Princess of Wales.
Diana wasn't a Princess.
She was Diana, Princess of Wales...........the media called her Princess Di, but it was incorrect.
The commentators yesterday were saying "she leaves the Abbey as a Princess" - so I guess she is, in the pecking order, but we don't call her that.
Jack is correct, the Princess Di thing was a press fabrication.

She has several titles includng Princess William of Wales - just wondered why she iosn't a Princess - can you only be born to that
Yes.
she was Princess of Wales. I did not say she was Princess Di
I guess her Uni drinking pals will always call her "Kate".

When she next goes on the p!ss with them, I wonder if she will be all regal ... or will she punch the air, and go

"Yes, Yeesss, YESSS YESSSS YES ... IN the bag !!!!!"
mickrog-I wasn't considering your responses.
Diana was HRH the Princess of Wales before her divorce and Diana, Princess of Wales after the divorce. The latter was a negotiated title, acknowledging that she had royal sones but stripping her of personal royalty (the HRH) If you are non royal and want to use the title of Princess, you have to lose your own name and use your husbands (like Princess Michael of Kent)
There seems to be goss that it was deemed "unwise" shall we say for William's wife to have a better title than her father in law's wife. Of course, she may also have had a preference, like Princess Anne not wanting to be the Princess Royal while she was still competing as a showjumper.
Diana was NOT a princess in her own right. The press called her that wrongly. She was the Princess of Wales, never Princess Diana.
Okay mike, calm down :-)
