Given it 2 years ago and although healthy its not grown from its original size of about 12 inches

I have heard that they do grow at a very slow rate, so maybe it'll be fine!.......

As Welshlibran suggests, they're very slow growing.

However, too small is probably a great deal better than too big. I'd doubt that you'd want a full-sized one!

Isn't the Wollemi Pine right up there as one of the oldest species? I read that 400 million year old fossils of it had been found.

my monkey puzzle tree was bought at a car boot sale as a green shoot coming of a nut type thing, in a plastic water dispenser cup, my daughter paid 1.50 for it out of her pocket money and she was aged 7, its been in a pot all of the time until last summer when we planted it in garden, at the minute its 20 inches high and quite bushy with lots of bright green new growth on the ends of last years dark green, my daughter is 19 this year so, they do grow very slowly,
