UK Military Records

Hi again, I have found two UK military records of an F.Wright, Both have regimental numbers attached. My question is" how do I obtain more family details from the UK military history? I need to check to see if they could be related to the Framcis Leonard Wright, who was said to be the father of my grandmother, Stella May Wright (Victoria, Australia 1890-1986} He was possibly UK military, possibly Boer war death, and possibly linked to the Wrights who were builders at Westminster Abbey.He may have been about 30 years old in 1890 as the mother was that age. He had a sister Alice and a brother George.... Who knows for sure what is true and what families make up .... But I am still trying. regards

There is a Leonard Francis Wright in the WW1 medal rolls who's home address was 73 Walm Lane Cricklewood, number 19642 he was a Cpl then a 2nd Lieut but probably too young to be the one you need as well as the worng order of names.
There's a Francis Wright who is about the right age but he joined at Sunderland and his home town was sheffield
A Francis L Wright , a bomber, died 2/8/1915 awarded the victory medal, reg no 61091 RFA

241379 Private Francis Wright aged 37 in 1919 he was from Braemar in Aberdeenshire, a woodcutter.

Then there is a very sparse record for a Francis Wright of the Royal Army Vetinary Corps. no other details except reg no. 26129

There are Boer Wat casulaties listed but all 3 possibles are just F Wright, no other personal details.

Without a bit more detail of location it's not going to be easy to pinpoint exact birth details for Francis. Wright is an incredibly common surname.

Thank you for such prompt replies! Yes I am in Australia, but so many relatives have come from UK I need to use thia site too. You all must be so pleased that the day was fine for "the wedding" we had it on tv here.The royals put on a fine display...
I have found one transcript "a Division S,A, Consstabulary" that lists a Wright, F.L. no: 1311, who seems to have died on the 17 JUne 1902. and was to receive the Queens Soth African Medal. I believe he died in SAfrica and the woman he left behind here in Australia, married in1893. Did she know he wasnt comming back??
Dotty, I have checked some UK South African 2nd Boer War records, but they are vague and there are pages of F Wright's.( no ages and no idea what the "F" stands for. I believe he was on some exchange from the UK military(abt 1890's)and could be deployed any where England wanted him to go. I have very limited infomation, unfortunatly you never ask the right questions when people are alive. Regards Judy

I have looked at the record of the medal rolls for 1311 F L Wright and it gives no information other than the type of medal awarded.

Was Stella born in the UK or Australia?

Hi Dotty. No she was born in Melbourne Australia (May 1890) and her birth was not registered...Not sure if it was because her parents were not married or just slack!There are no Australian census records for this time either! I am beginning to think that a name and story was just made up... The only document I have is a copy of her baptismal record which gives the names of her parents. I wont give up just yet!

Judy I am trying to get some background to any Francis Leonard Wright that may help, there is a Mr and Mrs F L Wright travelling from East Coast NZ to Sydney arriving 29 Mat 1891. Is it possible that Stella was baptised in Victoria but that she was born in NZ and her parents married there too?
