Broadband connection fails on 1st start up

When I start my computer and click on my broadband supplier I get a "connection failed" message.I restart my computer and connect to the internet no problem.Any thoughts on why it takes two goes?

Any information on the equipment you have? is it a router, a modem? what? and if it's a router do you turn it off?

If you do you are probably not giving it enough time to connect before you click on whatever you are.
