Have you ever returned a used item for a refund?

A few weeks ago I bought a printer. I used it for a couple of weeks but just couldn't get on with it. The paper kept jamming and it was very slow. Wasn't sure whether it was actually a fault though.

I thought I'd be stuck with it as I'd run off a lot of work, but Argos gave me a full refund, even though I'd told them I'd used it for two weeks.

every range sold in Tescos will have a different profit margin, some items will only give a 10% profit, some as much as 60%, just selling something does not always guarantee a profit, if Tesco have 25 toasters on a special offer, they have to sell them all to make the profit, if one is stolen, or a couple are refunded then the profit has been lost.

Tesco ,Asda M&S every retailer sells products for little or no profit, theyre called 'loss leaders' designed to stimulate sales of other similar items which will have high profit margins

Essentially if something is 5hite I will take it back in or out of warranty, unless I have done something stupid to break it or worn in out and it has died of natural causes. the vast majority of major retailers are doing healthily enough to warrant returning something that is unfit for purpose, and I really don't think that you can blame customers returning goods for the huge financial slump we're all experiencing.

Couldnt agree more Fezzy.Every retailer knows no matter what they say or do someone will try and get one over on them.They know this and they build that wastage into their trading figures.Theyre not losing anything.

In 1978 we moved back to England for a while, and I had a new steam iron which dripped and dribbled for 8 months until my mil told me that wasn't right ( I hadn't a clue!) so I took it back to Curry's who were slightly surprised but exchanged it for a better one. I now know they are not supposed to drip and dribble all the time!

Took a lawnmower back to Aldi. It was so staggeringly heavy I couldn't move it across the grass. Not even empty - goodness knows how they expected a woman to push it along full of grass ! They have a "bring it back within a month" policy, so they agreed to a refund, but they looked very taken aback indeed.

237SJ - A warranty actually isn't the be all and end all. Under the Sale of Goods Act you can actually have recourse for several years after purchase, depending on the product.
