Hi I've inherited my Dad's bulky PC and want to download some of my CDs to my MP3 player but the disk drives won't open - have done a search but can't find any answers. Help please...

Have you tried the paper clip trick?

I've tried rebooting and using a straightened staple but to no avail - will try to remember to bring some paperclips home tomorrow but don't hold out much hope - thanks
I wouldn't hold out too much hope either, the paper clip will open the drawer for sure, but I doubt it will help.

Check the connections on the drive, if either the power isn't plugged in, or if the data cable is the wrong way round the drive won't open. the power cable is keyed so can only go one way round (unless you really force it!) and the data cable should be connected with the red stripe edge closest to the power connector.
