System Files

Could someone explain to me in Layman's terms what they are for.
When I delete my browsing history with CCleaner there are always loads of System Files to delete along with IE Explorer Files.
Are these files something to do with memory ?

These are usually, though not always, files created by the operating system itself for various purposes. They are marked with the System attribute so that you can't delete them. Chances are, even if you were to remove the System attribute, you'd still not be able to delete them directly because they will be in use by the operating system. Just ignore them...

Quite simply they are the files that make up windows and it's components that enable your computer to work.

The ones you are deleting are probably log files, which are classed as system files but are not critical to the running of the system.

Many thanks to you both for the info, things are clearer now.
Just had my PC upgraded to 2 Gb of RAM this morning as I was running it previously on only 512 Mb which was too slow really.

My Internet speed is pretty good but my PC speed was usually rather slow especially at start up in the morning !
There is a big difference in my PC responsiveness now, really pleased.
