Back with a Vengeance

These last three days my problem with Sciatica has returned, and I thought I had got rid of it. I can now barely move without chronic pain in my right groin and pelvis, especially when with even with two sticks I have to turn around altering my direction to go upstairs, which I have to climb one step at a time. Trying to get comfortable in bed is agonising, so I find a hot-water bottle laid on my hip helps. I was visited by my doctor yesterday and he gave me Amitriptyline tablets which gave me a good nights sleep. But, to get to my question, the tablets given are for depression, and I don`t feel at all depressed, although with all my other problems I suppose I should be. Big C, Heart disease, & Diabetes. I am also now on `Ispaghula Husk Orange` for bowel problems, and having to drink loads of water, which I hate. Have a nice day,......I won`t. Oh whoa is me, and all that.

Yep-agree with Boxtops that amitryptiline is used to help with musculoskeletal problems (as is diazepam sometimes). When used for depression, it is given in much higher doses (I speak from past experience!)
Good luck when you see your GP-take care and I hope the sciatica eases soon xx

Update. I spent a vary disturbed night and the nerve or muscle in my right thigh kept twitching with each heart beat, and if I tried to move , a sharp pain would shoot down my leg. Climbing the stairs to bed is a mountainous effort, lifting myself one stair at a time, which took about five minutes to go up 13 stairs. I have to use two walking sticks to shuffle along. Sorry if I am boring you with my problem, but it helps take my mind off it. Thanks very much for your posts, as they help a lot.
Anneasquith: I assume I have Sciatica, and the GP hasn`t said otherwise.

Providing there is no contradictions with other medication you are on (I am no Pharmacist) you could try Deep Freeze (available in spray or cream from supermarkets and chemists). Spray/rub across your lower back before bedtime and when you wake up. I suffer with Sciatica (left side - groin, buttock, hip & leg) and using this has helped me immensly. I had a bad bout last week (training new puppy triggered it) and used it for a few nights -and absolutely fine now!
It's far better than taking pills and works faster too!
But be warned - spraying the lower back gives you quite a jolt (it's very cold) - but it works for me.
Hope it helps.
