I am really Worried for my Granddson...
36 Answers
Hi everybody again. :- (
I am really worried about my grandson as he is still in hospital. As some of you will know from last weeks post, he was born last Wednesday and all seemed ok for my daughter to leave Thursday but, they found his sugar count to low and he had jaundice,
The sugar level got back to normal with medicine and they put him under lamps to cure the jaundice and after 2 days he was allowed home but had to go back the following day for test. his jaundice level had returned to high and they kept him in and his having blood test every hour, the next one at 7pm tonight.
I know jaundice can be common with new born babies, especially if they were born early, like he was was (3 weeks) but it is still worrying.
I know my daughter is concerned but she is trying to give the impression to me that all will be fine, as she knows I am a worrier.
Anybody had anything similar happening in their family, as I am really anxious?
I put this Q in the old post from last week today but didn't get any reply's.

This is almost certainly a case of neo natal jaundice which is a bit stubborn.....nothing unusual in that, but BILIARY ATRESIA?.....1million to 1 outsider and extremely
rare and the paediatricians would have picked up other signs.
You are scaring me :-)

Hi trt, I'm sorry I'm only seeing this now but i don't come on here very often anymore, but I thought about you today & thought I'd check in on how things are. I hope things have settled with your grandson now, did you find out what the issue was with your daughters blood? I ask because I'm Rhesus negative & that can cause the problems you mentioned before, it also means if the baby is rhesus positive then it is more likely it will be born with Jaundice, which was the case with both my boys. & they were both born at 38 weeks, With my eldest he also had a calcium deficiency so was in hospital for over a week after he was born, I too was back & forth to hospital for blood tests & he was about 3 months before we got the all clear. He is a fit & healthy 15 year old now & we've had no issues since. My youngest was also born with jaundice but I was able to deal with it much better as I'd been through it before, my midwife at the time suggested I try & see if I could 'flush' it out, so I fed it every 3 hours whether he wanted it or not & within 48 hours all signs of jaundice had gone. Obviously I'm not saying this is what your daughter should do but it shows that they do things differently when its the 2nd or more baby.
