Under new anti terror laws, next time you book an holiday, your phone number, credit card details, who accompanied you, your destination and other personal details will be recorded and stored for 5 years. And other EU countries can request and access your details, and there is nohing you can do about it.

Of course the Conservatives who campaigned and got elected on less EU interference, and less public surveillance, have eagerly endorsed the idea.

An invasion of our privacy or a worthwhile counter terrorism measure? Or do you have another view?

Well Spikey and Answerprancer your remarks have been very conscructive. I have been flying for 25 years and I will take your informed remarks into account when I next go to work (not)! Thanks anyway

well, go ahead and defend the Tories, Myskavik... or anyone. Did they get into power by promising less surveillance while actually introducing more?

Cowtipper, with regret, I agree with you. We have changed our whole way of living at Al Qaeda's prompting. The security industry should adopt Bin Laden as its patron saint.
Why does everyone regret to agree with me? I must be some kind of bastard child.

On this occassion I am castigating the Government, not for being Tory led, but for being hypocritical. They promised one thing and do the complete opposite. Overtall, my beef is that the terrorists are winning because stupid Governments, whether Labour or Coalition are doing what the terrorist want. They do not want democracy and freedom, they want the state to control and subjugate its citizens.

And various Governments of whatever hues keep bringing in ever more prying legislation under the pretext of thwarting terrorism. In reality, keeping my credit card details for 5 years, or CCTV in Birmingham or stopping me photographing Buckingham Palace do absolutely nothing to stop the next terrorist attack.
