gran - I wonder whether Edward thought the Monachy would accept Mrs. Simpson as his wife and future Queen - when you watch the old footage of these history programmes, he seems quite full of himself and very confident. I think it may have taken the wind out of his sails when they were not accepted after their marriage, but this is just my opinion.

You could be right DEN but In those days the Royal Family were the backbone of Society and all the procedures of pomp and circumstance was strictly followed. I think that the King's advisers would have been made him aware of the position he was in. One or the other.

My late Mum actually made dresses for Mrs Simpson. She worked for a french dressmaker in Baker Street London at the time and actually worked on some of the trousseau. She used to tell me that it was general gossip in London that he was going around with Mrs Simpson and he used to turn up in the car to drop her off and pick her up from the salon. When the story broke in the papers one of them (she thought the Mirror) had a double page spread of the trousseau and she brought home samples of the fabrics and pinned them round the paper. Sadly when she was in the army and salvage was at a premium, her Mum gave it to the salvage drive.
