Waterproofing Walking Boots
What is the best material to waterproof leather hiking boots? I know that a lot of boots contain a polymeric membrane inside the boot. This polymeric membrane is not intended to protect the leather but to keep the wearer's foot dry. I know Dubbin has been used for years to treat leather but is it as effective as the synthetic waxes. I would appreciate advice on this matter.

Also products by Dasco have reasonable reputation.
One of the best I ever found was a silicone leather wax branded as 'Hanover' which was supplied by Flotilla Shoes of Street in Somerset. I think they are now out of business.

Dubbin softens leather and its donkey's years since I've seen it used. Most boots today are fabric and /or suede. Apart from a bit of shoe polish on my leather
winter boots that's about it.
Nikwax is good but expensive and just about any silicone polish will do The easiest product is a spray on silicone as you can aim it along the welting. Its good on suede or leather,
If your boots are a bit leaky there a good waterproof socks available from outdoor shops
