Just listened to the Queen and the Irish President Mary Mc Aleese give their speeches in Dublin Castle, dignified and emotional. The Queen is absoutely brilliant for a woman of her age 85, to speak with such eloquence unfaltering and heartfelt lets hope this will bring understanding and peace and good relationship to Ireland and England.

AV I'm afraid you are hoping for too much. Piggynose you'd be hard pressed to find a single nation that hadn't treated another abominably at some point in their history.
i enjoyed the speech and think she represents the UK and Commonwealth really well! xx
piggynose can you find me a link as to the history of what the Spanish and Portugeuse did in South America please?
I think she has looked very smart during this trip. Good old Queenie.
The best thing the Queen could do for Ireland is to say William of Orange committed a gross act by separating your country from the North. Now is the time to hand it back and stop the division that separation has caused.

She has visited some war memorials but these pale into insignificance the thousands who have died in the present conflicts.
Let us all hope so, Astonvanilla!
What about the people in the north who don't want it united?

She has acknowledged the past that is what this trip is all about looking to the future, she has suffered as well personally. People in N,Ireland live well, Southern Ireland in dire straits financially they will have to sort it out between them, move on!
rov1100, if the north was forced onto the south to create a united Ireland there would be a civil war.
Rov She laid a wreath at the memorial for the 30,000 Irishmen who died fighting for the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland in the First World War.
I'd say that was a significant number.

If I can agree with mighty WBA there should be peace!
I imagine all the Unionists living in Northern Ireland will be happy to give up political control of their country to Dublin the day after all the Irish people in America surrender political control of their communities and property to the nearest Native American tribal council.
God save the queen !!!
Im so proud the visit is going so well as are most Irish people.I thought her speech was great and to open with a some Irish words was lovely just as many as I could manage now and I was thought the language all through school.I know not eveyone thought the visit was worth the risk security wise but Im so glad it went ahead. Here's to a peaceful future for Britain and Ireland.
