making your own deck of cards
11 Answers
Hi, I was wondering have any of you tried making your own deck of cards? I'd be interested in 2 different varieties: Drawing/painting and using images printed from your computer.
I should add I've googled the subject myself and found DIY sites galore so no need to do my googling for me:) ...I'd just like to know if any of you have found a method (materials) that really work, cos in my experience this kind of thing often doesn't turn out too well.

I have never thought about this at all but I have, in the past, looked into making business card type things. The problem I found then was that any thick paper or card that would go through a printer was not robust enough for the application. I suspect that you may find the same problem now and for an application like playing cards you will probably find it even worse.
I would be interested in how you get on.

Any old paper and then either Military laminating pouches at 95 x 65mm or Badge laminating pouches at 99 x 67mm (standard cards are 63 x 88mm) would be my suggestion.

(you'd could probably find somewhere to get them slightly more local to you)

Hadn't heard of pouches before, Chuck. For notices and similar items I've tried separate sticky sheets like in this clip http://www.youtube.co...M4j0k&feature=related very comically entitled EASY lamination hahaha (it's chaotic there for a while). Pouches seem much easier, I'll make a note of them. However, for playing cards I'm with scotman - wouldn't it render the deck as high as a skyscraper in Dubai, and hard to shuffle - or do you have experience to the contrary? Ratter how thick is pretty thick?
