For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.Yes, it's possibly my all time favourite book. Copies do go for more than average as it's one of those books that those who have lost their treasured copies HAVE to replace. I keep recommending it, but it's a hard sell from the synopsis.
@ Sir Alec, it is indeed one hell of a book - one of the few books I have read that really changed the way I look at things. The TV production was not a patch on the book (though probably seems better if you haven't read the novel) and misses out a huge chunk of the story to squeeze it down to suitable length. A mini-series would be a much better proposition.
@DaisyNonna, it does turn up in second hand/charity shops regularly.

It's a superbly moving and spiritual book, author William Horwood. It's about cerebral palsy, abandonment, cruelty, love, you name it. I've read it twice now and unfortunately lent it to a friend. It made a huge impression on me first time round and I would recommend it to anyone, particularly to anyone with a friend or relative suffering from this cruel illness.
