Where can I sell secondhand books in Gloucester

I have a mix of books and am emigrating so need to move them on - and would prefer to make a bit of money rather than just give them away

I love books especially detective novels. I reckon your best bet is a garage sale or a car boot sale if you want to get rid of them quickly. and keep all the money. (Amazon and eBay take a part of it). When my friend had a garage sale she printed some small posters off and her daughter put them in the houses in the street. It went really well. You don't have to have a garage. As long as it is sunny or dry you can put a table in the drive but it must be inside the gate. Watch for shop-lifters, you even get them in charity shops.

You'll make very little at a car boot sale. People want an armful of books for a few pennies. ebay is the same, by the time you've paid postage .. and I believe there's a maximum postage charge on ebay that's not very high.. and paid fees, you'll net very little. We're in the same position as you, not only do we have hundreds of books but my husband has a lifetime's collection of American comics dating back decades. Nobody wants them these days. We were thinking of Freecycling our books with provision that they go to a worthy cause or to a school or OAP home or something similar. The problem with Freecycle is that people sometimes spin you a yarn about wanting something for charity when they simply intend selling your wordly goods on. I agree that a garage sale might be worth trying, but it may not be worth the effort. Sadly nobody seems to want books these days.

Amazon is good for 2nd hand books, my daughter has bought a few at a reasonable price.

I don't know about Gloucester, but out of the local 2nd hand places here I've only found one that actually seems to want to buy stock (and then they prefer p/x).

You could always take them to a charity shop if you have no luck selling, then at least the money goes where you want it to.
