Favourites

My computer 'broke' yesterday and we ended up buying a new base unit hence having to start from scratch again. Luckily had saved to my memory stick but the questin is I had saved Favourites to the stick but can I now reverse and if so how and re-enter them as they were on my old computer. Bold and new are Packard Bell. Thanks for any help as had lots of senior moments in the last 24hrs.

There are various ways of doing it. Here's mine:

Insert the memory stick and go to the 'Favorites' folder on it. Display that folder on your monitor as a Window which only takes up part of the screen.

Then display the 'Favorites' folder, which is already on your PC, alongside the first one. (You should find it at a location somewhere like C:\Documents and Settings\username\Favorites. If you can't find it that way simply go to Start>Search and look for 'Favorites' - remembering to use the US spelling!).

In the window for the memory stick, go to 'Edit' and click on 'Select All'. Holding your mouse key down, 'drag & drop' all of those files across into the other folder.

Chris's answer assumes you use/used Internet explorer on both computers, if you used a different browser on your previous computer then post which browser as the steps will be different.

A good point, Chuck. I assumed (from the use of the term 'Favourites', rather than 'Bookmarks') that it must be IE.

As Chuck has indicated, other browsers store bookmarks in different ways. (Internet Explorer uses a folder full of shortcuts, whereas Firefox stores all of its bookmarks within a single HTML document).
