'They shall not grow old as we that are left grow old', he murmured.
I'm looking for the Scottish author of this first line of a book. Any help appreciated.

It's from a poem by Laurence Binion called "For the Fallen". Binion was born in Lancaster
Sorry, should be Laurence Binyon.
It should be:
They shall grow not old,
as we that are left grow old,
Age shall not weary them,
nor the years condemn,
At the going down of the sun,
and in the morning,
we will remember them.

This is the exhortation of the Royal British Legion.
(ps brokenbank is correct, taken from: For the Fallen).
Who is an ex regular serviceman and member of the British legion, so knows his exhortations.
me too!
Actually, only half and half on that one.
There's a lot of us about, us ex WO's.
Question Author
Sorry but you're barking up the wrong tree. The quote from the poem by Laurence Binyon is used at the start of a book by a Scottish writer. I'm looking for the name of the book and the name of the writer. Thanks for replying all the same, Brokenbank and The Winner
