considering how he flouts the law and the fact he obviously thinks hes above it, i would have thought a far longer sentence would be appropriate.

Yes, of course in my humble opinion, answerprancer.
I base that opinion on the fact that when people hear that a criminal has been sentenced to six months, most people of sound mind would consider it reasonable that he serves six months, or at least thereabouts. They do not expect he will serve less than 50% of that term. Except, of course in this country.
