I'm trying to re-instal Google Earth because it has mysteriously disappeared from my laptop Again.
The download keeps failing and it's telling me that my firewall maybe stopping it. Is it alright to turn the firewall off, quickly download GE then turn it back on again straightaway?

Yes .. That would be no problem.
I would say uninstall all Google apps first .. then empty Google folder in Program Files, then reboot and try a reinstall. I don't think Firefall is going to be your problem.
Try the download later tonight maybe.
As above, not a problem to switch off firewall and agree that it's probably not your problem...

Try downloading it from another location...

What is better about google earth as opposed to google maps satellite view?
There's a lot more options and you can add layers in GE.
Thank you, I vaguely remembered that when it was first available but never worked well for me

I just tried your suggestions Albags and Chuck to no avail. Bummer.
Are you downloading it and then installing it, or trying to install it directly? What I am after is, is the actual download failing, or the subsequent installation? What OS are you using? Are you an administrator?

As someone else mentioned, try uninstalling the old one, run CCLeaner to get rid of leftovers, download the installation, then install it, you may need to install it as an administrator, although that would surprise me.

When I click on Download and "Run or Save" comes up, do I run or save it? Am I an Administator? I don't know.
Save it to desktop first.
Are you a sole user? Or is it someone else's machine?
W7 or XP?
Question Author
Windows7 and it's my own laptop. If I save it to the desktop, do I run it or save it to instal it?
OK.
You download (save) to Downloads in W7 usually (Start Menu .. downloads folder) but desktop will do.
This will be an installer .. It will download the rest of the installation file as it goes/as it needs.
Run the file when downloaded ... and wait.
Have you blocked or denied Google Updater on your machine? Either cookies or the program?
Question Author
How do I find out if I Have blocked the Google updater Albags?
See if it runs and downloads first.
That will save a load of typing : )
