"It captivated my imagination but not in a good way." The 'way' doesn't matter to advertisers as long as the 'captivating' occurs! The Go Compare people, for example, simply MUST know that the 'tenor' adverts are switched off immediately they appear in masses of homes, but they still go on. Why? Presumably because they are working.
What the American company did to Cadbury's when they bought it should really qualify the product for being beyond the pale for British chocolate-buyers. Apart from that, the advert and others like it are ghastly, as you say.
