Rover 620TI Clutch Problem

HI all

I have a problem with the clutch on my 620TI. The pedal drops straight to the floor with no resistance, as if the clutch cable has snapped although I know that the clutch is hydraulic on these instead. The car does drive without the clutch so the plate is ok, and also I have no fluid leaks as the clutch fluid reservoir is full still.

Any ideas??

It could be a couple of reasons:

1.  Air is in the clutch fluid system and will require bleeding.

2.  The slave cyclinder will have a rod that pushes the clutch arm.  There maybe a clip/circlip etc., missing and therefore it isn't even moving the clutch arm.

3.  Same as above but at the clutch pedal end.

Have a look at these and if everything is in order then let us know!

If there is no resistance at all and no fluid leak then there is a break in the physical linkages.  Unless the piston (master or slave) is leaking round its sides (slight resistance) and the fluid is bypassing the piston.  If there is air in the system there will still be slight resistance.

What do you mean the car drives without the clutch, please clarify?

What I mean is that I can drive the car even though the clutch pedal is on the floor i.e changing gear at the appropriate revs and forcing the gearbox to change gear,  so that plate must be ok. I will check the above.

Any further suggestions would be very welcome.
