Unusual bird visiting our garden. It is about the size of a sparrow, it is a light beige colour with a white collar. Has anyone any ideas as to what it could be, it is a ground feeder.

the RSPB has a good bird identification tool on their website which allows you to input info and it then comes up with possibilities
Garden Warbler or Whitethroat are the only Birds of that size which spring to mind from description given.
As carmalee suggests, try RSPB Bird identifier on their Website.
might be a young male whinchat.... a better identifier is the advanced one on the surfbirds website Reed bunting is also a possible match .... Any more you can add to the description Denis
just thought its a bit early but if you are in one of the southern counties juvenile goldfinches are very light coloured with a white or cream neckband might be out of the nest and feeding alone now
